On Collecting Vintage
Printed in 1976 — Unique
A photograph is both an image and a physical object. For collectors, understanding how that object was made is essential. This is an original vintage gelatin silver print of the Ramones’ first album cover — printed by Roberta Bayley in 1976, the same year she made the picture against a brick wall in New York’s East Village. It is hand-titled and signed on the recto, with her copyright stamp and the handwritten notation “printed by RWB in 1976” on the verso, and it survives with its full margin on the original presentation board. Only one other vintage 1976 example is known. A later edition reproduces the image; a vintage print is the moment itself.

QUEEN II
Created for Queen’s Queen II album cover, Mick Rock’s image became one of rock’s defining portraits. This 2020 special edition was limited to just four 8 × 10 in. prints. Each was signed in gold and mounted in a passe-partout by Mick Rock himself—an exceptionally intimate, artist-finished object from one of music photography’s most iconic images.
