Led Zeppelin — Photographs, 1966 to 1983

Led Zeppelin redefined the scale of rock music, and the photographs in this collection were made on both sides of that scale: in the close quarters of the British press years, and on the American tours that turned the band into something closer to a travelling city.

Barrie Wentzell photographed the band for Melody Maker through the early 1970s, including Robert Plant at Wembley in 1972, John Bonham the same year, and the concert at the Palais des Sports in Paris in 1973. Ian Dickson photographed Jimmy Page and Robert Plant in London in 1975.

In the United States, Bob Gruen photographed the band in front of the Starship, the converted airliner they toured in, in New York in 1973, and made the Madison Square Garden photographs of Jimmy Page with the violin bow in 1977. Richard Aaron photographed the band in 1975 and 1977, and Ebet Roberts photographed Robert Plant in New York in 1983, after Led Zeppelin had ended.

Together the works cover the full arc of the band, from the British clubs and television studios to the arenas, made by photographers who had direct access at each stage.

Each work is produced from the original negative or colour transparency, hand-signed by the photographer or the estate, and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and a secure digital provenance record.
