Richard Hell

Richard Hell (b. 1949) is one of the defining figures of New York punk. As a founding member of Television, The Heartbreakers, and later Richard Hell & The Voidoids, he helped shape the sound, style, and attitude of an entire generation. His 1977 album Blank Generation became a cultural landmark, while his unmistakable image—captured by photographers such as Roberta Bayley, Kate Simon, Allan Tannenbaum, and others—came to symbolize the raw energy of downtown New York.
