Barrie Wentzell is one of the defining photographers of British music culture in the 1960s and 1970s. As chief photographer for Melody Maker from 1965 to 1975, he documented an extraordinary decade of musical and cultural transformation, photographing The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Elton John and many others.

Working with the remarkable access afforded to music journalists of the period, Wentzell photographed musicians onstage, backstage, in studios, on the road and in informal surroundings. His photographs combine the immediacy of photojournalism with an unusually intimate view of the artists who shaped modern popular music.

This collection brings together fine art photographs from the Barrie Wentzell archive, produced from the original negatives or transparencies and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
