VINTAGE PRINTS

Photographic objects made close to the moment they document
In photography, a vintage print is an object produced at or near the time the image was made, typically under the photographer’s direct involvement or within the original working context of the archive. Unlike later exhibition or contemporary prints, vintage photographs belong materially to the period they document.

Their importance extends beyond rarity. Paper, printing process, stamps, inscriptions, crop marks, handling traces and provenance can reveal the history of an individual object and the ways in which an image was originally produced, used and circulated.

TMPG places particular emphasis on vintage material. Within this archive, these works offer a direct physical connection to the emergence of punk and to the photographers who documented it from inside the movement.
