About the Work

Bob Gruen photographed the Ramones riding the New York City subway on July 18, 1975, as part of an early sequence made in and around Forest Hills. The image places the band within the everyday city environment from which their identity and music emerged.

This original vintage gelatin silver print measures 8 × 10 in (20.3 × 25.4 cm). A rare vintage work from Gruen’s documentation of the Ramones and New York punk.
