Tim Curry’s Frank-N-Furter is one of the defining performances in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and Mick Rock’s portraits helped preserve its extraordinary visual presence. Rock approached Curry with the same intimacy and instinct for transformation that shaped his photographs of Bowie, Queen and the glam era, creating images in which character, performer and photographic persona become inseparable.

Invited by director Jim Sharman to photograph the production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Mick Rock was given unusual freedom on set. He photographed the filming itself as well as cast members in specially arranged portraits, creating a remarkably intimate record of the production before the film became an international cult phenomenon. The archive reveals the same qualities that define Rock’s music photography: theatricality, intimacy, collaboration and an instinct for turning performance into enduring visual identity.

This body of work is an important part of the Mick Rock archive, extending his practice beyond music portraiture and preserving a unique record of one of the most influential cult films of the twentieth century.
