Chalkie Davies travelled on the bus to the first date of the 1979 Two Tone Tour in Brighton: "There was a fabulous camaraderie on the bus." He decided to photograph all the bands, more than twenty musicians, together on Brighton beach.

"The Two Tone School Photograph idea lasted about a minute": someone spotted the Specials' manager, who was carrying everyone's per diems, and most of the group ran after him.
