Chalkie Davies's NME cover portrait of The Clash, made in 1977 against a white background at Rehearsal Rehearsals in Camden.

Rather than the full-length group shots the band's manager Bernie Rhodes preferred, Davies wanted close-ups of their heads and "a photo people would remember." It was his first cover shot on white, and one he considers among his best.
