About this work

Pete Townshend photographed by Barrie Wentzell at IBC Studios on Upper Regent Street, London, in 1968, during the recording of Tommy.

Wentzell had interviewed Townshend earlier that year, when the guitarist first described his plan for a rock opera about a deaf, dumb and blind boy; the idea had seemed implausible at the time. Returning to the studio months later, he found the band already deep into the sessions and the record taking shape.

Archival pigment print. Limited edition of 50. Hand-signed and numbered by Barrie Wentzell. Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
