About this work

Pete Townshend photographed by Barrie Wentzell in the garden of his Twickenham home in 1971, dressed as a Pearly King with a banjo and his spaniel, Towser.

Townshend wrote so often to Melody Maker that the editor, Ray Coleman, gave him a page of his own. Wentzell made the accompanying photographs, many of them deliberately absurd. On this visit he arrived to find the guitarist arranging his daughter's toys across the lawn; the dog was recruited on the spot and, by Wentzell's account, posed perfectly.

Archival pigment print. Limited edition of 50. Hand-signed and numbered by Barrie Wentzell. Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
