About this work

In 1978 Chalkie Davies travelled to North America with writer Charles Shaar Murray for NME cover stories on Nick Lowe and Elvis Costello. Outside the El Mocambo in Toronto, where Lowe joined Costello for encores, he asked Lowe to pose "throwing shapes", Lowe's own phrase for performing on stage: "It's easy being in a band, all you do is go onstage and throw a few shapes."
