John Cooper Clarke was the first person photographed in the studio Chalkie Davies built in the garage of the house in Kew he shared with Phil Lynott. Once he moved into the studio, he never left it.

Davies calls Clarke his favourite Mancunian of their generation, constantly funny, with the same bird's-nest hair and piercing eyes he has today.
