Jimi Hendrix photographed by Barrie Wentzell in 1967, in a rare colour portrait made at close range.

Hendrix had arrived in London the previous autumn and within months had become the most talked-about musician in Britain. Wentzell photographed him here in the floral tailoring that defined his London period, relaxed and smiling away from the stage — a register quite different from the incendiary performer the public knew.
