Elton John photographed by Barrie Wentzell at the Sundown Theatre in Edmonton, North London, in 1973, performing Crocodile Rock.

The filmmaker Bryan Forbes, a neighbour of the musician, was filming the concert that night, which meant the stage was unusually well lit for the period. Wentzell had photographed Elton John's earliest sessions as a solo performer, when the pianist was still reticent in front of a camera; by 1973 he was leaping from the piano stool, and this frame catches him mid-air.
