The contact sheet from the Absolute Beginners cover session, carrying David Bowie's own marks: frames rejected, frames set aside and frames circled, including 4C, the smiling picture that became the cover. The record company and the art director added their own.

Davies describes Bowie as "one of the easiest people to work with": the lights were set in advance and Bowie stepped in and posed for about three minutes. A rare record of how one of Bowie's covers was chosen.
