About this work

Chris Stein's portrait of William S. Burroughs places the writer within the same downtown New York world that produced punk. By the late 1970s Burroughs was a fixture of that scene, his cut-up sensibility echoing through the music being made around him.

Stein photographed the artists and writers who moved through his orbit with the same directness he brought to musicians. The picture reflects a moment when literature, art, and music shared the same rooms.

Open Edition. Archival pigment print from the original negative, on premium cotton photographic paper. Certificate of Authenticity included. Worldwide insured shipping.
