About the Photograph

The four members of Queen — Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon — gathered for Mick Rock in London, 1974, in one of the portraits that helped define the band's early image.

This is a unique late print — a lifetime print drawn from Mick Rock's own archive and personal collection. It is signed by the photographer on the front and, most unusually, inscribed in his own hand along the lower-left margin — “QUEEN, LONDON 1974” — a gesture Rock almost never made. No other example is known, making it a genuine one-of-a-kind.
