James Chance, leader of the Contortions and a central figure of New York no wave, with his saxophone and a cigarette, photographed in colour by Marcia Resnick.

Marcia Resnick photographed the musicians, writers and artists of downtown New York from the late 1970s into the early 1980s. Many of these portraits are collected in her book Punks, Poets and Provocateurs: New York City Bad Boys, 1977–1982.
