Reed rests his face in one hand while a cigarette and dark glasses define the close, almost square composition. The cropped view reduces the scene to a small set of gestures: fingers against cheek, the cigarette held upright, and the reflective lenses. Hanekroot’s hard contrast gives the portrait a dry, graphic quality while preserving the quiet, inward character of the pose.
