Devo, Group Portrait

A group portrait of Devo by Chris Stein, the members arranged with the clinical symmetry that defined their image. Even at rest the band performs its thesis: identity as mass-produced, personality as uniform.

Stein's portrait sits within his broader record of the new music emerging at the end of the 1970s, when bands increasingly treated their visual presentation as part of the work itself.
