About this work

Debbie Harry photographed in New York City in 1977 by Bobby Grossman.

As the frontwoman of Blondie, Debbie Harry fused punk attitude with pop glamour and became the defining face of the CBGB generation as it crossed into the mainstream. In 1977 the band released its breakthrough material even as it remained rooted in the downtown scene around Grossman. This studio portrait strips away the stage persona, presenting Harry with a quiet, sculptural directness.

Each print is produced from the original negative, dated and hand-signed by Bobby Grossman on the front, stamped on the verso, and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by the gallery. All works are limited edition.

Vintage prints from the original period may be available upon request. Please contact the gallery for further information.

Bobby Grossman is one of the definitive photographers of New York's downtown cultural explosion of the late 1970s and early 1980s. His intimate photographs document the artists, musicians, and cultural figures who transformed contemporary art and music, from Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat to Debbie Harry, David Bowie, and The Ramones.
