Made in New York City in 1977, this second motorcycle jacket portrait extends Chris Stein’s study of Debbie Harry’s early visual identity. The image works through small variations of stance and expression, where style becomes a form of authorship.

Stein’s ongoing collaboration with Harry allowed him to return to a subject across moods, settings, and forms of presentation. These photographs show the making of Blondie’s image as a lived, iterative process.
