About this work

Made in New York City in 1977, this second portrait of Debbie Harry with Joan Jett extends the record of a shared punk and new wave milieu. The variation underscores the informal exchanges through which the scene’s visual history was made.

Stein’s camera works from the closeness of participation, attentive to the relationships among artists as much as to individual presence. The photograph preserves a cultural network in formation.

Open Edition. Archival pigment print on premium cotton photographic paper. Certificate of Authenticity included. Worldwide insured shipping.
