About this work

Photographed backstage in Glasgow, this portrait finds David Byrne of Talking Heads in the charged quiet that precedes a show. Chris Stein made the picture while on the road in Britain, as the sound of New York's downtown scene was reaching audiences across the UK.

Stein's camera moves easily between the stage and the spaces around it. His backstage frames carry the same instinct he brought to Blondie — an insider's attention to the ordinary moments that surround performance.

Open Edition. Archival pigment print from the original negative, on premium cotton photographic paper. Certificate of Authenticity included. Worldwide insured shipping.
