About the Photograph
During the legendary 1973 Pin Ups photo sessions, Mick Rock photographed David Bowie experimenting with a saxophone as he assembled the visual identity of what would become one of the defining albums of the Ziggy Stardust era.
Unlike the widely published images from these sessions, this photograph has remained virtually unseen.
It belongs to a remarkable group of unique vintage gelatin silver prints preserved in Mick Rock's personal archive and is now part of The Music Photo Gallery Collection.
Printed shortly after the original negative was exposed, this photograph bears Mick Rock's handwritten annotations and photographer's stamp on the verso.
No other print of this image is known to exist.
More than a photograph, it is an original archival object from one of the most celebrated collaborations in the history of rock photography.
