About this work

David Bowie during the filming of the iconic promotional video for Life on Mars?, London, 1973, photographed by Mick Rock.

Filmed in June 1973, the Life on Mars? promotional film has become one of the defining visual statements of the Ziggy Stardust era. Directed by Mick Rock himself, the video presents Bowie against a stark white background, wearing Freddie Buretti's now legendary powder-blue suit and Pierre La Roche's theatrical makeup. The minimalist setting transformed the performance into one of the most enduring images in the history of popular music, perfectly capturing Bowie's otherworldly glamour at the height of his creative ascent.

Each print is produced from the original transparency, numbered by the Mick Rock Estate, embossed with the official estate seal, and accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity. All works are released as limited editions using archival pigment printing on museum-quality paper.

Vintage prints from the original period may be available upon request. Please contact the gallery for further information.
