About the Work
David Bowie is photographed by Mick Rock at Carnegie Hall in 1972, during the American launch of the Ziggy Stardust tour that introduced Bowie to New York audiences. Rock captures the theatrical charge of the performance and the intimacy of his access to Bowie at the height of the Ziggy era.
Mick Rock — “the man who shot the seventies” — held rare, sustained access to the era’s defining artists, from David Bowie and Lou Reed to Iggy Pop and Queen. This photograph belongs to a group of unique vintage prints from his personal archive held by The Music Photo Gallery.
