About the Photograph

David Bowie caught in the midst of transformation in Aberdeen, 16 May 1973, during the Ziggy Stardust tour — Mick Rock, Bowie's official photographer, at his most intimate.

This is a unique late print — a lifetime print drawn from Mick Rock's own archive and personal collection. It is signed by the photographer on the front and, most unusually, inscribed in his own hand along the lower-left margin — “BOWIE, ABERDEEN, MAY 16, 1973” — a gesture Rock almost never made. No other example is known, making it a genuine one-of-a-kind.
