Inquire About This WorkBob Dylan, The Castle, Los Angeles, 1966
Photographed by Lisa Law at The Castle, the Los Feliz home she shared with Tom Law and a changing community of musicians, artists and figures of the 1960s counterculture.
Bob Dylan came to stay at The Castle in 1966, renting a room in the house. Law photographed him there during this period, not as part of a formal portrait assignment, but from the privileged perspective of someone living within the same creative circle.
Dylan would stay up late in his room, typing into the night. Law’s photographs from The Castle capture an unusually private moment in his life, removed from the stage and the public persona that surrounded him.
The image belongs to a remarkable body of photographs in which Lisa Law documented the cultural world of the 1960s from the inside—not simply as an observer, but as a participant in the community she photographed.
