Katie, I built this selection specifically around the direction you gave me. I have intentionally combined important signed, vintage and archive works with exhibition prints and more accessible editions. A few historically stronger objects can give real depth to the collection, while the exhibition and contemporary works allow us to build scale and visual impact without every piece sitting at the same price level.

Queen / Freddie Mercury
This selection combines scarce lifetime works signed by Mick Rock, large exhibition prints from the artist’s archive, authorised estate-stamped works and photographs by other major music photographers. The intention is to balance rarity, scale and value while preserving a very strong visual group.
Original exhibition prints from Mick Rock’s archive
A small group of large-format exhibition prints produced during Mick Rock’s lifetime remained stored for years after exhibition use. In some cases, the same image can therefore be considered at two very different collecting levels: a scarce signed lifetime work, or a much larger exhibition print at a substantially lower value. The exhibition works are unsigned, but several retain exhibition markings, stamps and, in some cases, Mick Rock’s handwritten approval notation on the verso.

The selection moves between Mark Weiss’s direct access to the band and Timothy White’s more constructed editorial portraiture — backstage, on the street and at the moment the band’s late-1980s visual identity was fully forming.

For Aerosmith, the emphasis is live energy. Bob Gruen’s photographs of Steven Tyler bring the audience directly into the frame, while Timothy White provides a later editorial counterpoint.

Pearl Jam’s visual history is inseparable from the physical intensity of its live performances. These photographs move from the raw immediacy of the early 1990s to the enormous scale of the band’s later stadium performances.

A small additional selection beyond the original brief. Given the client’s interest in Pearl Jam and the broader 1990s alternative-rock period, Nirvana felt like a natural extension rather than a separate direction.
