The One to One Concert
Madison Square Garden, 1972
On August 30, 1972, John Lennon performed at Madison Square Garden for the One to One Concerts, his only full-length solo concerts after leaving The Beatles. Organized to benefit children with special needs, the performances brought together music, activism, and public purpose at a decisive moment in Lennon’s post-Beatles life. Bob Gruen’s photographs capture Lennon returning to a major New York stage not simply as a former Beatle, but as an artist using visibility, music, and public action as part of a larger cultural statement.
